Remix Project

What is remix culture? To me, remix culture is taking one object and merging it with another to create something new and interesting. There are various ways to remix, one example being through juxtaposition. Remix culture is incredibly important as it allows people to expand on others creativity to create limitless ideas and creations.

Butterfly Skateboard
For this creation I was thinking of different ways to remix a skateboard. It occurred to me that the board of a skateboard could look like the body of a butterfly, so I added wings. I feel like this sorta follows the feeling of "taking flight" when doing a jump when skateboarding.

Deviled Egg
This devil egg was an attempt at making a more literal version of a deviled egg. I modeled the egg and the tail (hard to see in the picture but the tail is on the backside) and then remixed it by adding horns and dragon wings (which I used as devil wings here)

Eyes in jar
This idea was inspired by a jar of olives. It randomly occurred to me that I could replace olives with eyes since they're kind of similar in shape

Fruit Cone
For this creation I replaced the typical ice-cream scoops with fruits. These fruits are similar in size and shape and give off the same vibe as ice-cream, bright and sweet (other than the lemon which is just bright lol), so I thought it would look interesting on a cone

Fish Candy Dispenser
When I saw this empty base for a candy dispenser, I immediately thought of things I could replace the top candy bowl with. I choose to remix it with a fish bowl. I couldn't find a model for a fish bowl so I created one myself. I then added the little beta fish to be the new "candies" that it's dispensing.

Portal Cup
I found these fun little portal man magnets on thingiverse and I thought that the portal itself would look really cool as some sort of drink, so I put it in a coffee cup. The portal serves as a liquid and a method of transportation

Ghost Cauldron

For this ghost cauldron I thought it would be neat if the ghost almost appeared in place of where smoke would typically be coming out of the cauldron. It also adds to the spooky theme.

TV Head
Instead of watching someone through a screen, here we have a representation of watching someone in a screen. The model for the TV I found was empty inside so I thought it would be interesting (and sorta eerie) if I turned around the expectation of a 2D flat screen and instead adding a 3D man

Gun shooting rocket
When I saw the smoke trail model that came with this rocket I knew I had to remix it with a gun. The rocket is similar to a bullet and the smoke really helps connect the model. In a way this remix is also a rocket launcher design.

King of the Jungle

My last model was inspired by the phrase "King of the Jungle" that is used to refer to lions. I wanted to show this in a literal sense by giving this lion a throne and crown to physically display his status.

Objectified Response

For this project I choose to model one of the cameras shown during the documentary. My choice was inspired by Karim Rashad's section of the video where he speaks about the design of the camera, and how we tend to design around old models despite the old design no longer relating how how the object actually functions today. I also thought that a camera design would just be fun to build since cameras are pretty layered. The brand of camera is not named in the documentary, but the label on the actual camera within the film says that it is a Silette pronto camera.

Paper Folding

       For my paper folding project, I'm thinking of making a wii remote. The wii console was a big part of my childhood so I think it would make for a good model. For this project we were tasked with creating 8 different unique forms to create and unroll, so I thought this would be a really good opportunity to try and create a model of each part of the wii remote. (Remote main base) Immediately, I kinda ran into some problems with modeling. The lofting tool wouldn't work for me, it said "the curves are not connected" even though I tried multiple times to connect the curves. Hopefully I will figure that out in the future but for now I just used the surface creating tool. It was a bit finicky but it did help me get the models done. I think this base needs a little more shaping and I will definitely fix that for the final model. (Back Button) I think this back button looks pretty good!
