Paper Prototype (PRACTICE)

Image
I'm not entirely sure if we had to blog this but I've done it now and I think it's a fun record of my progress ٩(˘◡˘)۶   For my paper replica, I chose the main base of the wii remote to model. I thought this was the most important component to experiment with since it is most of the design. For the first step, modeling the remote, I actually didn't have as much trouble as last time. This version is definitely better then the last one and unfolded into a more functional form that can be easily refolded. Unfolding also went smoothly. For some reason last time I was stuck in the idea that the unfolded version had to be one connected piece, which definitely screwed me up for a few designs. Here the triangle ends meshed with the small triangle folds below it so I separated them. It's not shown in this photo, but I realized that the small corner rectangles (on the right of design) had to come off too, so they are also separated as shown in later photos. The unfolded desig...

Paper Folding

Image
For my paper folding project, I'm thinking of making a wii remote. The wii console was a big part of my childhood so I think it would make for a good model. For this project we were tasked with creating 8 different unique forms to create and unroll, so I thought this would be a really good opportunity to try and create a model of each part of the wii remote. (Remote main base) Immediately, I kinda ran into some problems with modeling. The lofting tool wouldn't work for me, it said "the curves are not connected" even though I tried multiple times to connect the curves. Hopefully I will figure that out in the future but for now I just used the surface creating tool. It was a bit finicky but it did help me get the models done. I think this base needs a little more shaping and I will definitely fix that for the final model. (Back Button) I think this back button looks pretty good! The only thing I would change is that the curve should be fully curved instead of th...

Paper Research Project

Image
For my paper research project, I choose to look into the artist Hoang Tien Quyet and his beautiful wet fold origami. Quyet's work is wonderfully unique due to the way he uses water to give his creations life and making it distinctly differently from traditional dry origami.  Origami Rooster Origami Horse Hoang Tian  Quyet I think what stands out to me most about Quyet's paper animals is how they just hold such a delicate sense of movement. In the origami horse for example, the figure is made 100% better by his simple method of using water to give the usually flat paper more form. The sharp edges are able to be smoothed and curved into more elegant and refined shapes. Another example of this is in the origami rooster, which stands strong off it's platform, and has a body that takes a interesting S shape, giving it the illusion of life. According to Quyet himself on his personal website, he states that when he first started out creating as a child origami was...

Mesh Mashup (Finished)

Image
For my mesh mashup I decided to choose my fish gumball machine to make into a final render. Originally I had planner to have more fish in the tank, but as I was working on it I found that Rhino was having increasingly more trouble rendering and just running in general. I have a pretty decent gaming computer but I think these fish models I grabbed must have been straining it. So in the end I decided to just keep my three fish in the tank. I grabbed these nice free fish models from sketchfab. They had some really good high quality ones and I think they look pretty cute here. Though original model for the blue fish is actually orange. I'm not entirely sure why it went purple, but honestly I liked the purple colour so I just left it as is. Remix Project

Image
Remix Project What is remix culture? To me, remix culture is taking one object and merging it with another to create something new and interesting. There are various ways to remix, one example being through juxtaposition. Remix culture is incredibly important as it allows people to expand on others creativity to create limitless ideas and creations. Butterfly Skateboard For this creation I was thinking of different ways to remix a skateboard. It occurred to me that the board of a skateboard could look like the body of a butterfly, so I added wings. I feel like this sorta follows the feeling of "taking flight" when doing a jump when skateboarding. Skateboard by Nambler - Thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4434080 Deviled Egg This devil egg was an attempt at making a more literal version of a deviled egg. I modeled the egg and the tail (hard to see in the picture but the tail is on the backside) and then remixed it by adding horns and dragon wings (which I used as ...

Objectified Response

Image
For this project I choose to model one of the cameras shown during the documentary. My choice was inspired by Karim Rashad's section of the video where he speaks about the design of the camera, and how we tend to design around old models despite the old design no longer relating how how the object actually functions today. I also thought that a camera design would just be fun to build since cameras are pretty layered. The brand of camera is not named in the documentary, but the label on the actual camera within the film says that it is a Silette pronto camera.

First practice in Tinkercad

In my first object design class I was introduced to Tinkercad and made my first project.
